Arms trade still shames our country

The following letter by Christine Wilson was published in the EDP on 1 March 2011:

During the events of the last weeks in North African and Middle Eastern countries there have been several references to the arms trade including David Cameron's
visit to the Middle East. It is high time that much more attention is given to this scandalous and unethical trade. Libya, Algeria and Saudi Arabia are among 'priority target' countries for UK arms exports and Britain makes high level political interventions in ensuring that these countries buy from us.

Arms exports only endanger us all

The following excellent letter was published in the EDP on 7th November:

Sadly, I have read that the Conservative Party, if elected next year, seems set to do the arms industry leaders' bidding.

Stop UKTI

Norfolk CAAT has been busy during the week of action against UKTI - the government department that helps promote arms sales to repressive regimes and countries in conflict.

"Both sides must lay down arms"

''Our tax supports the arms trade''

The following letter was published in the EDP on the 23rd February 2009.

UKTI (UK Trade and Investment) through their Defence & Security Organisation helps manufacturers to promote arms exports. Essentially, it now employs civil servants to help private companies to sell arms.  This is an absolute disgrace. When I read on February 19 that BAE Systems had a pre-tax profit of £2.37bn, I felt another letter coming on.  If you feel as strongly as I do about tax payers funding the peddling of equipment to maim and kill contact The Campaign Against Arms Trade.
