Starting Again

Last year CAAT was looking for people to raise funding by taking part in the Great South Run, I offered my services quite late on in the day and have to admit to being quite relieved when there were no spaces. In January CAAT wrote to people who'd expressed an interest and this time I had no excuse.
499.JPGI signed up and started wishing I hadn't almost straight away - now I actually have to do something! I've been an on-again off-again user of a treadmill, but I haven't run outside since I was at school (and I'm not sure you could call what we did running even then). Experience on a steady paced treadmill gave me a false sense of my ability - running outside turns out to be quite a different matter. I first went out in March and nearly cried when I got back, it's much harder than I realised. Then I made a mistake - I went for a run when I wasn't feeling great and it was raining. I ended up with a stinking cold and a cough I still haven't managed to shake. A month later and I'm starting again. Slower and with less confidence in my ability, but with faith that I just commit to a regular practice I'll be all sorted by October. Right now I just have to get some new shoes.
